“Go outside. The worst that can happen is a bear kills you.” – I saw this on a bumper sticker on an RV when we were driving from Montana to Wyoming, and it cracked me up. Plenty of time outside on this trip. No bear sightings. Check. For those counting,…

Donkeys, Elk, and Moose…with a side of Sarah McLachlan in ColoRADo

Posted on June 10, 2024June 12, 2024 By Melissa

When Sarah McLachlan announced the tour for the 30th anniversary of her album, Fumbling Toward Ecstasy, I knew that I was going, as that was the soundtrack to my college years. The only question was where? We originally considered going to one of the shows in Seattle, WA and exploring…

Posted on May 31, 2023June 16, 2023 By Melissa

When it’s time to escape the summer heat in Texas, we often flee to Colorado since it’s an easy, non-stop flight for us from Austin. With the long weekend for Memorial Day, we did just that. We flew into Denver on Wednesday night (delayed, of course). When we arrived at…

No bus transfer to the trailhead for us this morning! Instead, we started with a mile hike on the road outside of Les Contamines and rejoined the trail in La Chapelle. The climbing began from there through the trees. Once we reached the junction at Le Chosal though, our guide…

At this point, we’ve got the daily routine down: Eat breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the starting point of our day’s hike, climb up a mountain, eat a picnic lunch on said mountain, go down the mountain (and, try to stay upright). Rinse and repeat. That’s not to say…

I wish more people knew that there’s more to Roa I wish more people knew that there’s more to Roatan than just 🤿 water activities. The great thing about the island is that you can easily fit BOTH types of activities into your itinerary! We filled our final day with these excursions during the 24-hour required interval between scuba diving and flying. Before we dive in, don’t forget to SAVE this for your next trip to Roatán and FOLLOW @mohlments for more travel gems around the world! Today, the island is still green and relatively undeveloped. Out of 20,000 acres of Roatan’s surface, about 75% is still undeveloped forest or grassland. 👉🏻Visit @djmonkeyandslothhangout to get up close and personal with monkeys, tropical birds, and sloths at this small family-run sanctuary in French Cay. 👉🏻Visit @xploreroatan located at Mahogany Bay and choose your own land-based adventure. You can mix and match to find the right level of adventure for you! Here’s what we chose:Enjoy a 1-1.5 hour exciting guided ATV ride driving through jungle trails and along the beach to experience the natural beauty of Roatan. Next up it’s time to enjoy a peaceful 1-hour guided ride through natural trails on horseback that take you through the jungles, along the beach, and wading through the water. Then, it’s time to hop on the Zipline. This 1-hour adventure takes you zipping through the jungle of Roatan above the treetops. Experience both breathtaking views and heart-racing thrills on this adventure. After all of that, don’t forget to cap off the day with a piña colada (or two)! 👋🏼Hi, we’re Kurt & Melissa. Today was a good reminder for us that it doesn’t Today was a good reminder for us that it doesn’t always have to be an international expedition-style rafting trip to have fun on the water.👉🏻 Just 30 minutes west of Denver in Idaho Springs, @clearcreekraftingco delivers some of Colorado’s most exciting whitewater rafting. Clear Creek is narrow and technical, and offers enough of a punch to keep whitewater enthusiasts happy (Class III-IV). Brain-eating amoebas. Methanol poisoning. Eye mask Brain-eating amoebas. Methanol poisoning. Eye mask contamination. Allergic reaction. These are just some of the “plausible” explanations that Kurt came up with for the severe light sensitivity, burning eyes, blurry vision, and redness that he began experiencing on the day before our flight home from the island of Roatan earlier this week.Fast forward a few days later…3 eye appointments and a high dose antibiotic eye drop every 15 minutes, and he’s finally on the other side of the situation. Best we can figure is that he experienced significant swelling of his corneas after something got trapped underneath his contact lenses. Possibly from scuba diving, but it’s hard to know for certain. With another water-based adventure planned for tomorrow, we’re hoping for the best…We may have neglected to mention this to his 👁️ doctor.#mohlments #travelmishaps #travelemergency #adventuretravel

So, I’m guilty of wanting to revisit places (and restaurants) that I know I loved….because I want more of the good stuff.BUT, I also crave exploring this big beautiful world. I love learning from fellow travelers about their favorite experiences (some of our best trips have come from the recommendations of others). Even though I had the right permit for these hikes Even though I had the right permit for these hikes, here’s where I went wrong:📍Zion NP: If you are planning to visit outside of the shuttle season (approximately Nov-Feb), you will have to drive to the trailhead. But, be aware that the road to the trailhead can be closed to vehicles once parking has filled up. Moral of the story: Get there early before the road closes! 📍Arches NP: Verify whether the number of permits required is one per person, per group, or per car. 🙏 Learn from our mistakes! 💾SAVE this for your next trip to Utah 🗣️Let us know if you have done either of these hikes and how it went! 👋🏼Hi, we’re Kurt & Melissa.
