We reconvened in Eugene with the Dallas girls on Wednesday afternoon, all filled with eager anticipation for what the next few days would bring at Hayward Field for the World Athletics Championships. This was the first time that the event was being held in the United States. Hello, World. Meet Oregon.

Highlights included: All three U.S. women qualified for the 5k final (with BTC Coach Shalane Flanagan watching from the stands right in front of us); Val Allman (who we met through her previous sponsor, Oiselle, back home in Austin a few years ago) claimed the first American women’s discus medal at a World Championships with her bronze; U.S. athlete Emma Coburn went for it early in the 3,000m steeplechase, although Norah Jeruto prevailed with a World Champs record and national record for Kazakhstan; Team USA’s world record-holder Sydney McLaughlin ran the second-fastest women’s 400m hurdles in World Athletics Championships history in 52.17 and set herself up to run even faster in the final later in the week – USA teammates Dalilah Muhammad, Britton Wilson, and Shamier Little also moved onto the final.
